I have discovered that one of our offices recently completed training of schools which were recipients of new Chromebook regarding the Google Admin Console. Apparently one of the features of Google Management is the Vault, where all emails, docs, spreadsheets can be automatically saved for a period of time designated by the administrator of the school’s Google Admin Console. They were asking me for advice about records retention.
I have several questions for the community. Is anyone familiar with Google Admin Console and its Vault feature? Is anyone using it for records management? What has been your experience, positive and negative with using Google Vault for records retention?

Joseph,
Right off the top, there is an issue (in my opinion) with ANYTHING going through “the goog”: Google’s TOU states that THEY own the information on their platform. When you sign up you agree to this.
Is it possible to have records generated on or by the Chromebooks stored and to manage their retention in a separate repository under our control?

While I’m not a G Suite expert, I’m not aware of any RM capability outside of G Suite. And even within, there is only the vault feature which is NOT records management. It just offers capabilities around retention.
