Hello,

I was beginning to compile some guidance for staff who are working from home due to Covid-19 that usually do not.  I thought I would see if anyone else has done this and would be willing to share or can point me to a good resource since I am cramming to get this information out I don’t want to miss anything.

In the meantime, I will get started!

Thank you for any assistance!

5 Tips for Managing Information
Tip #1: Set Expectations and Communicate Clearly If you and your team are used to an ‘everybody-does-what-works-for-them’ approach to managing your information, then transitioning to a remote work pattern might seem like an abrupt shift.

Hi Stephanie,

Here are 2 things Salesforce (an org that is heavy into remote work) has shared recently:
A module on Virtual Collaboration where I’d recommend to check out the additional resources at the bottom of the first module and review the actual content more closely in the 2nd and 3rd.
tips and tricks sheet (this one is better for anyone who is totally new to the concept and is more about the human pitfalls they could fall into than the more concrete strategies of the module.
Best,
Louise

Hello Stephanie,Despite the scurry that everyone is facing, the most important element of this is to document the expectations and processes for WFH employees. Consider it part of you business continuity plan. Here are a few items to consider:

1. Policy around any PII and/or sensitive information your WFH staff may need access to.

2. For those not familiar with a WFH environment, it is also suggested that you have a check-in policy from an insurance perspective.  Remember that if your employee is working from home and decides to take a break and do a load of laundry and slips – that’s not a worker’s comp claim.

3. If you have not already, create chat groups for your team so that communication is always open (Slack, Google Hangout, etc.)

These are just a few items to consider, but as I said above, documenting a policy, process and expectations is key! Hope this helps a bit…

This article is a good reference:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-03-15/how-to-work-from-home-tips-on-staying-healthy-sane-productive

I’ve worked from home now for 5 years and run our business from here, which for me means managing and directing a company with operations in 3 countries and working with customers/partners in 4 continents.  Much of this article rings true to me.  Hope it helps.

Can anyone remember the acronym for dealing with information (paper)? Toss, reuse, recycle, …? I know one was TRIM? but there was one that was RIM? it was mentioned in one of the webinars a few years ago.——————————

There is R.O.T. (Redundant, Obsolete, Trivial)

Josie,There is no acronym that I’m aware of that deals specifically/exclusively with paper. However, dealing with information in general, the following terms may apply (in addition to Terri’s contribution of ROT):

ECM (Enterprise Content Management)
CM (Content Management)
RM (Records Management)
RIM (Records and Information Management)
IM (Information Management)
EIM (Enterprise Information Management)
DM (this one is tricky as it is used both for Document Management and Data Management, so context is needed)
KM (Knowledge Management)
UXM (User Experience Management)

Note: “TRIM” is a vendor acronym for a system developed, used internally, and sold externally specifically by HP. It is not a term related to information management in general. It stands for “Total Records and Information Management” and (in MY opinion ONLY) it sucks .

Correction TRIM stands for TOWER Records and Information Management.  TOWER was the name of the Australian company that originally owned the software system before HP bought it a few years ago.

Thanks Pam. So much for the correctness of info you get even when you’re working in the HP organization.

In addition to ROT, one that we use is OSA  (Obsolete, Superseded, Administrative value lost)
