We are considering the purchase of a training video on basic Records Management 101 for training employees on the fundamentals.  Do you have any leads on vendors who may have a training video already in place for us to consider purchasing?

Thanks.

Liz,Given that they are the most authoritative source for “things records management”, I would definitely start with ARMA and using their education site.  There is everything from some free content to very reasonably priced content that you can use to create learning paths for each person.  I feel confident to say that it is probably the most practical and cost effective place to start.

Thank you, Lorne Rogers, for your response and helpful input.  I also reached out to ARMA and hope to hear back soon.  Have a great day!

In regards to learning specific software, we’re implementing a digital adoption platform that provides interactive walkthroughs. Let’s say I’m an end-user and I just want to create a template for my metadata…is that too much to ask? Well, no it’s not. You click on the link and the software “walks you through” each click. Without ever leaving the system!

  • No tip sheet
  • No user guide
  • No video
  • No phone calls from the end user 🙂

For more general training, the IG Department (aka John) likes to produce that in-house. Just a simple screen capture software so we can make the training specific to our organizational needs and requirements.

Now do these videos always have a slick professional design to them? Not exactly but you get great content.

I forgot to remove my box of Triscuits in this one as I was walking towards the scanner! (I know, better keep my day job.)

Hi Elizabeth,

Training many of your team on Records Management 101 is such a great idea, we have had many organizations find that this approach is so impactful. As we all know there is way more to Records Management than meets the eye, and having everyone understand and appreciate the basics makes for a more secure and operationally sound business.

Metropolitan District of So. Cal has a number of members of AIIM, so our Records Management Quick study is freely available to each of those members. https://www.aiim.org/Education-Section/Quick-Studies/Quick-Study-ERM perhaps take a look and see if this would work for what you are looking for from a content side.

Alternatively, we could definitely talk with you about creating something bespoke from all of our resources, we could pull from our Modern Records Management course, or our new soon to be released (Tuesday) Foundations of Intelligent Information Management.

Any of us at AIIM would be happy to explore some options with you, and tailor to your needs if we don’t have something at the ready.

Many thanks
Georgina

Hi Liz,

I was one of the developers who wrote the Metropolitan Water District public site. So I’m familiar with your SharePoint environment and culture.

As for RM education, I also recommend ARMA and will include Thor Projects. I recommend talking with Rob Bogue, at Thor, as his company does have education materials.

Thanks everyone for their input.  We are considering many options including in-house video production and an off-the-shelf product if it even exists.  We are looking to provide education, not so much for our internal Records team, but for our records coordinators and potentially regular employees so that they understand the basics of a Records Management program.

Thanks again everyone.
