Introduce Yourself

Hello everyone!
One of the coolest things about this community is seeing you make connections with one another–it’s incredible to watch friendships begin, grow, and change.

Our community gets bigger every day. Many of you already know one another, while others are brand-new faces. I feel like it’s time that we (both new members and established ones) take a little time to introduce ourselves. Share your name, where you’re from, how long you’ve been a photographer, what your business is like, and your favorite things to photograph…or whatever else you want.

I’ll kick us off: I’m Betsy, the community manager of the AIIM Community as well as being responsible for our AIIM Standards Program and the AIIM Chapters. I have been an AIIM member since 1988 (yes, I am that old!) and have been on staff since 1998. I telework from sunny Florida. I am looking forward to getting to know many of you and collaborating on this site to share our collective knowledge about information management.

My home state: Florida

I have been in IT for 20+ years (could it be 25 years already??). After programming and moving into a support role I discovered ITIL and the world of international best practice. I was one of the first ISO20000 consultants and my nerd-confession is that I love integrating best practices like CMMi, COBIT, ITIL and ISO standards. I have become quite passionate about information management.
I have just completed my ECM Master certification. I am also busy studying a Communication Science degree part time with Information Management as an elective.

Technology is a tool, it’s not my first love even though I am good at understanding and working with technologies. I’m enough of a techno-nerd to get excited about technology convergence and ISO/IEC standards . But I find people and their interaction with technology more interesting. I’m good at workshop facilitation, and coordinating organisational change and process improvement. My goal in life is to help bridge the digital divide by helping non-technical people make better use of information and apply best practices in their governance of IT systems (and hopefully make the lives of IT staff easier in the process). I like to see technology used skilfully and information made useful. So that me in a nutshell…

I am a Senior Records Officer within our recently formed Records Management Unit, IT Department. I am a member of ARMA International and established ties with AIIM after attending the San Francisco Conference. It has been rewarding experience thus far especially as it relates to managing of electronic information. ERM systems, Taxonomies, and Records Retention and Governance are my primary areas of interest at this time.

I am Bob Larrivee, Director of Custom Research at AIIM. I have been in this industry more than 30 years, as a records manager, integrator, VAR, analyst, trainer, marketeer, salesperson, business analyst, process analyst…. I think you get the idea, I have been around a long time.

I started as a records manager in a bank in the late 70s processing microfilm, went to Wang and was in R&D on the first imaging system. I became a professional member of AIIM since 1986 and never looked back. I believe this industry has the right focus, as does AIIM in providing research, training and forums for everyone to learn and exchange their ideas about information management.

Hi all! I’m a CIP and just really getting started in the field of RIM and IG. I work as a Paralegal but have had oversight of our company’s Records Retention program (which isn’t much of a program at this point- just a policy and the schedules). So I come to the RIM and IG conversation from the Legal and business side of things, not so much the IT side. But it has been fun and I hope to one day gain some more experience and get a position that does this full time! Someday…

And AIIM certainly fit that bill. So glad I’ve been here all this time. Thank YOU for making my job fun.

My name is Natsai, and I am an AIIM junkie. I’m the second person from South Africa replying to this post. I live in Johannesburg (Place of Gold) a fast paced African city where the days are long and the sunsets are epic. The one great thing this city has given me is the word “Eish”. You can use this word on any occasion if you are shocked, confused, happy or if you need to describe your records situation in one word.

I started working in the Information space 6 years ago – fresh out of university. I think I got into the space at the good time – there is lots of wisdom out there on how to handle almost everything.I have been a professional AIIM member for a while – but I haven’t done anything with it yet.

Truthfully speaking I am on this forum trying to figure out how to start my professional work blog. How much experience do I need before I can open up my mouth and everything I say sounds wise and quotable? This is the question of my work life!

Hello All, I am really excited that AIIM has started this forum. I am the Records Manager for the Cochise County Community Development Department which encompasses Highway & Floodplain and Planning, Zoning & Building Safety. Currently, we are in the process of working with our ECM vendor to “restructure” and provide consistency and ease of use for all of our scanned (since 1999) documents in preparation for Records Management/Retention software.

I live in the extreme SE corner of Arizona ( I can see the International Border from work and from my home) in a quirky little historical copper mining town named Bisbee, which has been called “Little San Francisco” due to the buildings from the late 1800’s early 1900’s built into the sides of the “Tombstone Canyon” in the Mule Mountains. We are located in the high Sonoran Desert at an altitude of one mile and are thirty minutes from Tombstone. Bisbee has long been advertized as having the “Best Climate in the World!’ We usually get snow a few times per year (just enough to enjoy it) and in the summer we have only a few days over 100 degrees before “Monsoons” hit and then we become a lush tropical paradise!! Our little corner of the world attracts a quite diverse group of people from everywhere around the globe and from every walk of life; for the most part, we manage to live together in harmony.

Hello! Thanks for allowing me to introduce myself. I am a Certified Information Professional. I currently serve as the Director of Records Management and Archives for the American Medical Association (AMA) ensuring the development and delivery of quality records management and archive services to physician members and staff. Favorite junk food: Ice Cream Favorite drink: Frozen strawberry margarita Favorite professional group: Well Hello! Of course it is AIIM. My home state: Illinois but wish it was Hawaii Best advice ever received: Career advice: If you are aware of a meeting taking place that you think you should have been invited to because it relates to your business, invite yourself! No one can represent you better than yourself. Personal: If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything (hard advice to live by). How I give back to my profession: I am an AIIM Evangelist, Information Advocate and help those I can through my blog,

recordsandarchivesmanagement.com What I do for fun: Getting together with family and friends and of course my animals. I have a fu-fu dog named Chanel, and a cat named Daisy (a.k.a. sh*tty kitty). I am an advocate for the protection and safety of animals and have been a member of the Dolphin Research Society since 1998 and a lifetime member of the Hooved Animal Humane Society since 1993. I have done fundraisers for the horses with TV stars like Loretta Switt from Mash. My wife and I have also had bake sales selling gourmet dog bones to benefit Paws with a Cause, an organization that trains assistance dogs providing people with disabilities increased independence. Something about myself that people would be surprised to know: When I turned 50 I started trying new things (does not mean I am good at them). A well-known secret (not anymore) is that I joined a group of baseball players that learned how to tap dance. During my short-lived dance career, I performed in a couple shows with my fellow Hoofer Hunks to include one at Soldier Field Park in Chicago in support of the Cystic Fibrosis. I also have joined my friends in a few plays. I have played David Lettermen twice, the first time interviewing Sarah Palin. That play raised $4,000 to buy Christmas gifts for kids. What I want to be when I grow up: A dog walker! I love social media and really do appreciate all my professional connections. Feel free to send me an invite on LinkedIn or let’s connect here or on Twitter.
Cheers!

I’ve spent most of my career in IT management, and consulting in Business Intelligence, Business Process Management and Enterprise Architecture for several companies large and small. About 10 years ago I followed an opportunity to my home today in northern MI, with a niche insurance organization called Hagerty Insurance. We’re the world’s largest insurer of classic cars. Hagerty is a very progressive organization, which offered me the opportunity to transition from IT into the business side. I am responsible for developing strategic foresight, facilitating risk management, leading the business continuity program and most recently kicking off an information management program. Fun!
While I’m not a Records Management professional per se, I have found that my prior experiences have been very helpful. I look forward to some guidance from others on this forum, and the opportunity to help others if possible.
When my mind is not on the drudgery I mentioned above, I really enjoy restoring old things like boats, homes, vehicles etc. Time with friends and family is also at the top of my list.
Warm Regards,

Greetings from Oklahoma! My name is Renee Fountain and I work for an privately owned insurance company managing the Document Management and Mail Center departments. I am relatively new to this position (3 years). We have had a “Records/Imaging/Document Management”
department since the dawn of time, these colleagues have never had an opportunity to join industry groups. 2017 will be our first year for our 2 Team Leaders and me to attend the AIIM Conference and we are all excited!
My background is on the Administrative side – budgets, contracts, project management. Since I have taken this position, we have expanded our service offerings to include things like remote check deposit and electronic document processing. (Our Mail Center is not digital yet – we deal with mostly paper).
We plan to attend the certification course day prior to the conference kick off. The Team Leaders are taking the CIP class, but I would like some advice on what class I should take. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it if you could share them with me.

Introduce
Yourself Hi Shara, and welcome!
——————————

Thank you all for taking the time to introduce yourself. When you are a member of a large organization like AIIM getting to know each other on an individual basis helps to make a large organization seem a bit smaller and more manageable. It also makes it better to share information and to help one another when we know each other.
At AIIM17, I would challenge everyone to seek out others from the community who have introduced themselves. See how many of your fellow AIIMers who have introduced themselves you can meet face-to-face.

I have recently joined AIIM. I have been in the IT industry for more than 14 years and in the last 10+ years, I have been working as a technical consultant for Oracle WebCenter Content Suite. I started my career in IT industry as a Java/J2ee Programmer. But later I switched to Content Management and started and (still continuing ) with Oracle WebCenter Content Suite ( When I switched the product was known as Stellent and later it was acquired by Oracle and renamed as WebCenter Content Suite).
Currently I specialize in this product suite. I have seen some of my colleagues being a part of AIIM or they are certified by AIIM and that’s how I came to know about AIIM. With the time I spent in Oracle and Oracle product stack for Content & Records Management, I wanted to learn more in these areas and go beyond technical product specialization. That’s when I decided to take the membership first and then the exam. I am planning to take up my CIP certification soon .

Hello,
I’m new to this industry, having been a librarian for many years. I’m here to learn — currently developing a taxonomy for the state agency I work for. It’s been a fantastic experience and I’m here to learn as much as possible, hoping to accomplish a career pivot to keep all of the deep research I do and add ECM.

Hello Everyone! I have been a n AiiM member for over 10 years and thoroughly enjoy the collaboration and resources by the organization!
I have a diverse background in sales and support in the Imaging industry and currently act as the Director of Imaging Services for a forward thinking technology company in Kansas. With the convergence of technology over the last 5-7 years our industry has been challenged to reinvent and evolve ourselves into a hybrid of traditional hardware and services companies, to a collaborative resource that encompasses a diverse playbook from application development, BPO, EDM, ECM, MSP and capital infrastructure. Aiim has been and will continue to be a great resource for information and training to help us develop a world class organization built to serve our clients.

Good to hear from you, Russell!

Hi all, I was a member of AIIM in the 1990s when I used to do a lot of imaging and workflow implementations, but as my focus shifted from content to process, I drifted away. Now that I see a lot more process-related things here, I’m back!

I’m an independent industry analyst and systems architect, specializing in business process management (BPM) and related technologies, including social enterprise and collaboration. In addition to my technical background, I’ve worked on the business operations end of projects, and I’m often involved from business requirements and analysis through technology design and deployment.

I’ve started and run successful product and service companies, including a desktop workflow and document management product company (Imara) from 1988-90, and a 40-person services firm specializing in BPM and e-commerce (MetaConcepts) from 1990-2000. During 2000-2001, I worked for FileNet (now IBM) as Director of eBusiness Evangelism during the launch of their eProcess BPM product, and I was a featured speaker on BPM and its impact on business at conferences and customer sites in 14 countries during that time.
Since 2001, I’ve returned to private consulting practice as a BPM architect, performing engagements for financial services and insurance organizations across North America, and as an analyst working with BPM vendors. I write a BPM-focused blog at 2www.column2.com, I often speak at conferences about BPM and digital transformation, and am a contributing author to books on social BPM and adaptive case management. I’m the recipient of the 2016 Marvin L. Manheim award for significant contributions in the field of workflow.

Hi everyone, My name is Alex Nygren, and I have been a member of AIIM for about a year now and attended my first AIIM conference in New Orleans last year. Throughout my career I have worked either managing technology for information and document processing (such as FileNet and other ECM systems, capture, and delivery and the associated strategies) as well as the operational oversight and governance of using document and information capture as part of business processes and compliance in a financial institution setting. I have seen success and I have seen failure in this space.
Last year I started Kina (www.kinaknowledge.com) , a firm that specializes in providing automated document services: recognition and classification, workflow, compliance, information extraction and storage in either a location behind the firewall, or in the cloud such as Box or Amazon S3.
I am looking forward to being a part of the discussion moving forward and sharing collective knowledge!

Hi all, I recently received my MLIS from San Jose State University. I’m ‘sort of’ employed at the moment, building a small controlled vocabulary/taxonomy with the goal of creating an RFP database for a network security startup. I’m also partially employed assisting with knowledge management for a small consulting firm. I have used AIIM’s resources extensively to assist in the above work.
I have 15 years of experience in web production, but I am trying to move away from that and start a new career, which has been difficult and a bit scary as I am no youngster. I am interested in taxonomy, metadata, knowledge management, and document management. After all my networking and research, I’m still not sure what to call myself — ‘digital janitor’, perhaps?

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen folks on this thread–and it’s such a good one for getting to know other members.
So, again, I’m Jess. I’m the Membership Director here at AIIM.
I’ve been with AIIM for 11 years now:) and am a CIP. From chapters, to membership, to community engagement–best thing about this job is the community. Have really enjoyed all the meet ups and conferences over the years, and looking to get to know more members via our online community.
If you have membership questions, feel free to reach out!
And if you haven’t introduced yourself, please do!

Hello! I’m a new member of AIIM and quite new as well to the entire field of information management. My official role is as the Director of Planning and Communications, but after leading several of our departments through a business process analysis earlier this year I realized that 95% of our inefficiencies and pain points are related to poor information management. So it looks like it’s time to get educated.
I’m grateful to have found AIIM and its rich set of resources – I’m amazed by the work many of you have done! I’m sure I’ll be reaching out to this community with questions once I get my bearings and have a slightly better sense of what I’m talking about.

Recently involved in applying Deep Neural Networks to recognise cursive handwriting with unparalleled results. Hello! I am excited to have this opportunity to introduce myself and get to know this exclusive group of smart, successful woman.
I have been in Records & Information Management just little more than 25 years, as I transitioned from risk and claims management and into operations and then technology.
I started leading a strategic digital transformation initiative in 2002 and have been a member of AIIM since the beginning. My role has continued to evolve and change alongside the rapid changes of information management.
It’s a fun ride!
I am passionate about responsible information management practices as well as effective business processes to meet the needs of customers (internally and externally).
I love the complexity and even the frequency of change, it opens so many opportunities for innovation – and the new world of work.
I live in CA – jump between No Cal and So Cal – mostly So Cal. I am a mother and grandmother.
I hope that I can be a mentor for the next generation of Woman in Information Management I look forward to meeting everyone.

Hi everyone! I am the corporate Records Librarian for Whataburger… probably the most well-known Texas-bred burger company. We are a mom and pop company that has grown exponentially over the past 67 years. Beyond our 800+ restaurants which have expanded into 10 states, we also have a real estate segment and retail segment. I came into this role form the government sector, I worked with Child Protective Services for many years. I was a field investigator, then supervisor. Many of the records management principles applied to case management and I was interested in improving some of those processes so decided to go back to school. I got my Masters in Library Science and ended up in this position (a longer, less interesting story)… apparently by fate because I am obsessed with the practice, fundamental components, and the opportunities. I’ve been a member with AIIM since 2015 but albeit a bit of a lurker. I am excited to connect with all of you. AIIM Conference 2018 is in my town! Woot woot!

My home state: Texas

Hello!
I’m Megan and I work at the Capital Group, which is a Financial Services company. We manage the American Funds. I find that people more readily recognize American Funds over Capital Group. I work on a small team in the Research Library called Research Publications. I hate that name. The name was created ages ago when most of what we did was publish and distribute research written by our investment professionals. Now, our work is much more about information organization, with some analytics thrown in. As technology advances, I find myself moving more and more towards learning about database and data management.

Hi Everyone! Nice to meet you all.
I am a recent transplant from Seattle to the Harrisburg/Mechanicsburg, PA area and would enjoy making connections/friends/coffee buddies in the area. I’m currently studying for the CIP Exam and looking forward to returning to Penn State (World Campus) this fall to finally finish my degree. I have been imaging and managing documents since the mid-90s. I remember my first document scanning job involved a Hewlett Packard ScanJet IIc, a DOS-based database mailing list program, early OCR software that provided silly misreadings, and a never-ending supply of “,”s manually inserted between words to force ASCII on the data.

I chose Mac and Cheese as my favorite junk food, as it is my favorite food in any category: comfort food, health food (it can be done), deserted island food, you name it. As for the kind of car I would be, I work for a nonprofit, so I could never afford myself, especially the insurance. But, that’s pretty accurate about the real me too.

What is your favorite junk food? Frito pie. My son plays baseball. In the bleachers, Frito pie is a staple, not junk food.

Free-associating in the AIIM context for a moment – I started with content and knowledge management in 1987, when I helped build Andersen Consulting’s global KM system using Notes. That carried over to Intel, where I was Andy Grove’s personal Notes administrator for a brief time, followed by Documentum and the various iterations of what we now know as SharePoint. I won the ‘Best Demo’ award at AIIM 2001, thanks to an opportunity provided by Mike Alsup. I ended up working for Mike post-Intel at Gimmal circa 2012. I’m now with RecordPoint. Talk to me about multi-cloud/hybrid-cloud electronic and physical lifecycle management.
Good to be here!

I’ve not posted on the forums until now, so I’m taking a moment to say hello. I’m Joey Chapa, and, for a little over a year, I’ve worked for the City of Fort Worth in their Records & Information Management Office. I previously did records management in the banking industry, though of an informal sort, in which there was little mention of record series or of retention schedules – though of course we kept records in accordance with the firm’s policies. Here at the City, records management is much more defined, and even very basic terms take on new meanings. Example: I’ve learned that, properly speaking, “archived” does not mean “boxed and stored at a third-party, offsite location.” 🙂 It is a different world, and there is much to discover.
I was hired to promote and support Laserfiche, the City’s document system of choice, and bring continuity to Laserfiche deployments and other related efforts. I’m also here to encourage an enterprise mindset across the various departments. And on to the quiz:
My home state: Texas
What is your favorite junk food? Very Dark Chocolate What is your favorite movie? Present favorites: Chef; Paterson; Blade Runner 2049 If you were a car, what kind would you be? Mini Cooper
I’ll end by saying that I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the posts in the open thread – I look forward to the daily emails – and I very much appreciate the helpful attitude I see on display. This is a great community, and I look forward to participating!

I started out with a Journalism degree, was a reporter, photographer, and editor. Switched to the technology side in 1984, and never looked back. Have worked in the content management arena with newspapers, magazines, book and journal publishers, the federal government, manufacturing, military, global accounting, and many more. The variety and evolution of solutions in the enterprise has kept me passionate throughout my career. I see the confluence of many solutions and technologies – from ECM to social media, from IoT to augmented reality – all merging eventually into a broad experience that used to be relegated to science fiction. It will be exciting to get that chip in my ear, with the heads up display projected holographically through my eyes. Of course, I will opt for the upgrade that gives me an “Off” switch at the end of my nose…

Hi everyone
I am a widely experienced IT professional who loves solving business challenges by applying appropriate technologies. I get great satisfaction from what I do and know that what I have to offer is valuable in today’s ever-evolving business environment. I am a Kiwi born and bred, have lived in various places around New Zealand, and have driven more than 2,000,000 km within New Zealand, so I am familiar with most places, which makes me feel I belong. Our home in Whanganui is modest. We have a quarter-acre property (1,200 sq. metres) that we planted with hundreds of native trees in 2003. They have grown hugely, so we have our own sample of native rainforest. We designed it to attract birds and we have counted over 40 species of bird, including some that are rare! As well as being an IT professional, I am an artist and photographer and our property is a work of art in itself!
My home state: Whanganui, New Zealand What is your favorite junk food? McDonalds KiwiBurger
What is your favorite movie? The Matrix
If you were a car, what kind would you be? Honda Accord US-Wagon 2.3 Litre (comfortable, economic, peppy, very stable)
My favourite vehicle! That’s about it. Take a look at http://www.amba.nz and http://www.alanmiles.nz for further information.
Best regards to everyone,

Thank you for sharing your experiences. Sounds like you live in an amazing place! Darrell
