Large Scale OCR Conversion Application

Posted by

Hi there,
Can any of you recommend a few tools that can do large scale OCR on PDF images? We are looking for a simple approach to hit multiple images at a quick rate. We already have the repository and image count defined, now we need a tool. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Kofax can do this. This would be an “industrial strength” solution. If this is a one-time event, Kofax would probably be over-kill. If you are creating an on-going process, Kofax is definitely worth a look.

What repository are you using? If it’s from a vendor, such as Hyland OnBase, that vendor may have a solution or recommended partner.

Hi- How large is ‘large scale’, and how do you define ‘scale’? As others have noted, is this one-time or ongoing? Do you need to capture specific content with high accuracy for indexing purposes, or are you happy with capturing general text with a reasonable degree of accuracy? Are there any handwriting recognition needs?

How important is the challenge you’re trying to solve, as measured by your ability to invest in tools to get it done? There are expensive tools with lots of features that may not be important to you, and there are cheap tools that are good enough for some uses, but lack features that may be important to you, depending on your use case.

Without some of those details, I’d be hesitant to provide any specific guidance. Too much risk of sending you off on a wild goose chase!

Hi
we are using Ezescan. There is no click per page and the install footprint is very small. I have done 1million documents so far with my current project and simultaneously uploaded the documents to our ECM platform(they support 30+). Moreover, Ezescan is simple to set up and low cost.
